A big update, long in the making

The game now ACTUALLY fits in your pocket!
Back to updates

We have a new box (again)!

It's been a while since there has been a large update to the game, and this is one I've been thinking about for a while.

The Stat dials are gone

I'm removing the stat dials (they will still be available to print, just not part of the main "print these to make a copy" any more.

There are a couple reasons for this:

Size of the box One of the defining features of this game was that it fit in your pocket. Well that became untrue on 2023 when I made the box massive to fit the stat dials.

Prohibitive to print Not everyone has a reliable printer, and the fact that the dials required you to have your tolerances dialed or you ended up with pieces that either didn't fit together, or fell apart.

Spirit of the game This game exists to be a simple "hey we've got ten minutes, let me teach you and play this game" type of deal, and the stat dials were a complex item to print and assemble, and they LOOKED complex.

The ~~small~~ big one

Along with this change (mostly just a restructure to the folders, all the same files are there), I have changed the orientation of the player stacks in the box. This means the box is almost 1cm shorter, meaning it fits much better in a pocket, and is a lot closer to the original tobacco tin.

I fully accept that these changes are very opinionated, and I don't make sweeping changes lightly, but this feels (to me) to be going back to the original spirit of Squadron Leader.

Finally, this means the copies I sell will no longer have the dials, instead they will have the new stat block printed, which is a reference for a good starting stat set.

New price

This means I'm decreasing the price of the copies I sell on here. At the same time however, I'm having to increase the cost of postage.

It used to be: £25 + £3.30 postage Now it's going to be £20 + £5 postage

This is a lot more in line with what I'm actually spending to ship the game.

I've been working on this change in my head for 18 months, and literally in the code for about 3, so I'm pretty happy it's all live!

Happy flying Tim
